I woke up this morning bright and early to learn that Doris Lessing has won the Nobel Prize for Literature. I’m both shocked and delighted. None of the articles I’ve read discussing possible winners mentioned her. She’s had a long career as an author and she didn’t even finish high school!

Did you get a load of what Harold Bloom said about her? Ye gods! I’ve always thought his curmudgeonly nature was endearing, but this is truly ridiculous.

Did you hear Doris’ comments to the reporters crowding her doorway? She stated that she could care less that she won a Nobel prize, no big deal as she had already won almost every prize there was. She thought that maybe the committee gave her the award because they wanted to honor her before she died. Talk about a curmudgeon!
