Report: Portland has Great Donuts

I got back from Portland very late on Saturday. Note: Avoid taking American Airlines to Portland as they fly you through Dallas, TX no matter that you are coming from Boston. The trip was great. I met a lot of nice people, saw some old friends including the Written Nerd (I missed out on meeting Bookseller Chick though dammit). I spent a lot of time at various Powells stores. The famous Dave Weich of Powells.com even gave me a tour of their immense warehouse.

A highlight of the trip has to be the late night visit to Voodoo Doughnuts. Touristy? Yes. Delicious? Yes. Maple flavored doughnut with bacon on top. Doughnuts covered in Captain Crunch or Fruit Loops. Sounds evil, but they are delectable, especially after a night of whiskey.

And yes, I read a lot on the 9 hours I spent just on the planes each way there and back, but that’s for another post.

Voodoo Donuts is the best! You can watch a wedding or watch someone shove an enormous donut in their mouth so they get it for free. Sometimes they happen simultaneously! Yes, VOODOO DONUTS IS THE BEST!

I’m sorry I missed you too. Sometimes I think that Portland is a blackhole for cell phones (mine refused to ring all of Saturday, or even tell me that I missed a call). I’m glad that you got to enjoy the deliciousness that is VooDoo Doughnut though. Was anyone playing in the balcony when you went? Sometimes they have live music.

We will always have Voodoo Doughnuts.

Jill and I had so much fun on Friday we decided that today’s department meeting should be catered by Voodoo. The Voodoo Dozen includes a selection of 13 — they choose the mix of varieties. I ordered two.

Brunch, though — you missed Saturday bruch at Genie’s. They serve a drink with orange vodka and Emergen-c. Championship caliber morning-after beverage, it is.

The Voodoo Donuts was a blast and I totally snarfed the maple-bacon donut BEFORE we met Dave and the folks from Shaman for brunch. Been detoxing on green tea since I got back. Have any pictures? Lyn says she does.
